Come join guest artist Aimee Carruthers from Doubly Studio while she teachers you how to make brutalist inspired pieces, combining hand building and wheel throwing techniques.

Aimee is drawn to clay as a means to engage fluidly between design and art, her approach to ceramics sees her drawing on her experience as a graphic designer to combine a graphic language with tactile material expression.

Her passion in helping others find their own path to artistic expression, Aimee will share her advice on how to develop your own arts practice using your interests and experiences as a launching point for creativity.

During this workshop Aimee will teach you all about how she designs and creates her beautifully sculptural yet functional pieces. Often as a marker you have to choose between either functional or sculptural work, Aimee's unique style is proof that you can in fact have both.

These classes are aimed at developing your pottery skills, so a basic level of centring and throwing is necessary. Don't worry if you are relatively new to pottery, as long as you have some basic skills we can build on them. Note: I won't spend much time talking about centring

Day 1 - Demonstrations, discussions and time to make forms on the wheel - 3 hours in total

Day 2 - Trimming work and joining the pieces together and adding any embellishments

All work from these classes will be fired and ready for collection from approximately 16th of October (it will take about 3 weeks to fire and glaze the work)

  • Two days (3 hours each, one to make and one to trim and join piece)
  • All materials including clay, glazes and firing of your pieces are included
  • 8 students, learn through demos and one on one tuition
  • All classes held in the Sailorboi Brunswick studio
  • Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting clay on
  • An apron/ smock or large over-shirt is a good idea
  • Bring an old towel

Studio address 23a Leslie Street Brunswick
